At Noble Shield Corso, the health, comfort, and long-term well-being of our puppies always come first. One of the early procedures we perform is dewclaw removal, which is often confused with “declawing” in cats. These are not the same.
Declawing (common in cats) involves amputating the last bone of each toe and is widely considered inhumane.
Dewclaw removal (done in dogs) is the removal of the small extra toe located higher up on a puppy’s front legs, and sometimes back legs.
Why We Remove Dewclaws
Safety: Cane Corsos are powerful, active dogs. Dewclaws can easily get caught on objects during play, training, or work, leading to painful injuries.
Health: Prevents future tearing, infections, or unnecessary vet surgeries later in life.
Standard Practice: Dewclaw removal is a common, breed-appropriate procedure carried out by licensed professionals when puppies are just a few days old, ensuring minimal discomfort.
Our Promise
Every puppy from Noble Shield Corso is given the best possible start in life. Along with dewclaw removal, they receive:
Tail docking (following breed tradition)
Ear cropping (if desired by the family)
Vaccinations and deworming
Microchipping
Early socialization and training
By the time our Cane Corso puppies are ready to go home at 10 weeks of age, they are healthy, confident, and well-prepared for their forever families.
